Description:

Early 50s mother of 2 diagnosed with breast cancer that underwent alloplastic (implant) breast reconstruction by a different surgeon, complicated by infection and right implant loss.

She had a BMI of <22 and was not offered autologous (own tissue) reconstruction when initially evaluated. She presented to me after loss of her right implant and recovery from her infection. I performed a stacked PAP/DIEP bilateral breast reconstruction restoring her feminization and self-confidence. This is a procedure where thin people that need more tissue undergoes 4 flaps, 1 from each posterior thigh fold and 1 from each side to the abdomen; one thigh and ½ the abdomen are transferred to each breast to reconstruct the breast using microsurgery.
