If you have stubborn fat as well as loose skin, lack of definition, or areas that could benefit from additional shaping, liposculpture may be only one part of your body contouring plan. Combining high-definition liposculpture with another procedure can address multiple concerns while creating a more cohesive result. This blog discusses combining liposculpture with other body contouring procedures, how it differs from traditional liposuction, whether you may need more than one surgery, and what recovery can involve.

5 Min Read:

How Is Liposculpture Different From Traditional Liposuction?

Liposuction and liposculpture both remove unwanted fat, but their goals differ. Traditional liposuction is primarily focused on reducing localized deposits of excess fat. High-definition liposculpture is much more detailed—the surgeon removes fat strategically to refine the body’s contours and reveal the underlying musculature.

This distinction is central to Dr. Heath Charvet’s approach. High-definition liposculpture is a three-dimensional sculpting technique that considers the patient’s individual anatomy and uses precision fat removal to create greater definition. The goal is not just to make an area smaller by reducing volume, but to create smoother transitions and more defined contours.

At Magnolia Plastic Surgery & MedSpa, Dr. Charvet uses AYON and VASER® liposuction as part of his high-definition technique. VASER® uses ultrasound energy to emulsify fat before removal, allowing precise contouring while preserving surrounding tissues. AYON also uses ultrasound energy and involves tightening of the subdermal skin. Dr. Charvet may also incorporate Renuvion® skin tightening, which combines helium plasma and radiofrequency energy to improve skin firmness following liposculpture.

Because high-definition liposculpture focuses on definition rather than simple fat reduction, it can be particularly well-suited to patients who are already close to their ideal weight but have stubborn fat obscuring their natural contours.

Can Liposculpture Be Combined With Other Body Contouring Procedures?

Yes. For the right patient, high-definition liposculpture can be combined with other body contouring procedures as part of a customized surgical plan. The right combination depends on what you want to improve. Liposculpture addresses excess fat and definition, while other procedures can address concerns that liposculpture alone cannot correct.

For example, a patient with loose abdominal skin and stubborn fat may benefit from Lipo 360 or high-definition liposculpture combined with a tummy tuck. A tummy tuck removes excess abdominal skin and tightens the abdominal muscles, while liposculpture adds the finishing touches and stunning muscular contouring.

Liposculpture can also play an important role in a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL). With this combination, unwanted fat is removed from areas such as the abdomen, flanks, back, or thighs and then strategically transferred to the buttocks to enhance shape and proportion. Dr. Charvet’s patient results include BBLs performed with VASER® high-definition liposuction 360.

Dr. Charvet combines liposuction with every abdominoplasty and all Mommy Makeovers, and liposculpture is the biggest component of a BBL. When incorporated into a Mommy Makeover, liposuction is typically combined with breast and abdominal procedures to restore changes to the body after pregnancy and breastfeeding. Dr. Charvet’s body contouring gallery includes patients who underwent high-definition liposculpture as part of a Mommy Makeover.

Will I Need Multiple Surgery Sessions If I Combine Body Contouring Procedures?

Possibly, but not necessarily. For good candidates, multiple body contouring procedures can be combined into a single procedure.

Combining procedures is a convenience many patients prefer because it may address several concerns during one operation and one overall recovery period. However, combining procedures also makes surgery more extensive. Before recommending a combination approach, your surgeon will consider factors such as the number of areas being treated, the complexity of each procedure, expected operating time, anesthesia, and your individual health.

In some cases, staging procedures with separate operations may be the safer or more practical option. The best way to determine whether your goals can reasonably be accomplished in one surgery is with a one-on-one consultation.

What Can I Expect During Recovery When Combining Body Contouring Procedures?

Your recovery will depend on which procedures were performed and the overall extent of your surgery. If liposculpture is combined with a more involved procedure, such as a tummy tuck, your recovery will generally reflect the needs of the more extensive operation.

Compression is vital to recovery and is required for six weeks and recommended intermittently for six months. For high-definition liposculpture alone, walking is encouraged very soon after surgery—often the same day—to promote circulation and reduce the risk of blood clots. Lymphatic drainage massage may also be recommended as part of your recovery protocol to reduce swelling, prevent fibrosis, and support the tissues as they settle into their new contours. Many patients can return to work within a few days to one or two weeks, depending on their occupation. Strenuous activity is typically restricted for three to six weeks, until Dr. Charvet clears you.

Swelling tends to obscure your results after surgery, so your initial appearance is usually not reflective of your final result. Dr. Charvet incorporates photobiomodulation with ELIXIR MD™ to reduce inflammation and expedite healing and recovery. As swelling subsides, your new sculpted contours become more apparent. The skin tightening effects of Renuvion® can also continue to improve the appearance of the skin over time.

When procedures are combined, your postoperative instructions become especially important. Your surgeon will provide specific guidance about activity, compression, incision care, follow-up appointments, and when you can safely return to your exercise routine.
