Chin Augmentation

in New Orleans, LA

What Is a Chin Augmentation?

Chin enhancement surgery (or chin augmentation) is a popular cosmetic treatment that improves the look of the jawline and chin for men and women who have a recessed chin. Often when a chin is recessed and sunken in, it can create a weak profile. Chin augmentation can be performed to highlight your chin, and one of the most effective procedures is using an implant to create a more prominent jawline and a more defined profile. Plastic surgeon Dr. Heath Charvet performs various options to consider for your chin augmentation. This surgery at Magnolia Plastic Surgery and MedSpa removes bone and cartilage to reduce your chin and jaw to a more appealing size. If you feel your chin is too prominent, he can help you with that, too. For more information, contact our New Orleans, LA office to schedule a consultation with Dr. Charvet.

How Is Chin Augmentation Performed?

During chin enhancement surgery, general anesthesia will typically be administered and an incision made beneath your chin. Typically, we will start your chin augmentation by reducing some of the bone to allow us to create your ideal look. If your augmentation is intended to create a larger chin, we will create grooves in the bone to securely hold an implant in position. The implant is inserted through the incision and positioned on top of the bone, just below your bottom lip. In some cases, the incision can be created inside the crease in the lower lip where it meets your gumline. Both types of incisions help to conceal scars. Tiny sutures are used to safely close the incisions, and the bottom portion of your face will be wrapped with medical garments. Cosmetic chin treatment produces results that are immediately visible. Although facial swelling and discoloration will occur right after your surgery, this only lasts a short while. For the majority of patients, they find recovery takes about two weeks. Heavy exercise should not be performed during this recovery window. Chin augmentation has extremely high success rates and by having it performed under the hands of a talented surgeon, like Dr. Charvet, your outcome will look proportionate and refined.

Chin Augmentation FAQS

How much does chin augmentation cost?

Dr. Charvet will be able to begin to estimate your total cost for chin surgery in your initial consultation as soon as your treatment plan is developed. Your costs will depend on the type and size of chin implant you choose, as well as surgical, anesthesia, and facility fees. A cosmetic procedure like chin augmentation can give you beautiful, long-lasting results, so it’s important to focus more on choosing a plastic surgeon you trust who has proven results and years of experience, like Dr. Charvet, rather than shopping for the lowest price. Magnolia Plastic Surgery and MedSpa accepts many payment methods, and we will help you find low-interest medical financing that will make your chin surgery affordable.

Will augmentation fix my double chin?

A chin implant is meant to give you a stronger, sharper look to the jawline. If you have a double chin, you may prefer a liposuction procedure where the fat in your submental area (the upper neck below the jawline) is corrected. Occasionally, this technique alone can create a better profile and look without chin augmentation surgery. Dr. Charvet will explain your options and his suggestions during your consultation.

Can I combine other facial surgeries with chin augmentation?

Many people get a chin implant with other facial surgeries, like cheek implants or rhinoplasty. Dr. Charvet will help you choose which procedures best fit your concerns and wants in your consultation. It might be difficult to decide on your own what procedure or procedures might be best for you, which is why a consultation with Dr. Charvet is important. He will use his years of experience and eye for aesthetically pleasing results to help you develop your custom plan.

Are there nonsurgical procedures to improve my chin?

If you have stubborn fat in your upper neck that can cause a double chin, KYBELLA injections are a minimally invasive treatment to improve the appearance of your chin. KYBELLA has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to reduce fat in the submental area. This may be enough on its own, or KYBELLA might be performed along with chin surgery to deliver your optimal results. Talk to Dr. Charvet in your initial consultation so he can review all your choices and choose what is going to best fit your goals.

What’s the difference between mentoplasty and genioplasty?

Mentoplasty is a procedure that adds fullness and shape to the chin. On the other hand, genioplasty is a procedure to rebuild the chin bone. Depending on the state of your chin plus your aesthetic goals, you may need both surgeries or just one. A genioplasty, in addition to being a cosmetic procedure, may also be performed to improve your dental bite or another medical concern. Dr. Charvet will help you decide whether you should get chin augmentation (mentoplasty), genioplasty, or both.
