Brow Lift
What Is a Brow Lift?
A sagging brow can oftentimes cause an angry or tired appearance. A brow lift (also known as a browplasty or forehead lift) surgically improves a drooping brow to give you a refreshed face by eliminating excess skin while also lifting the eyebrows. A browplasty is a popular aesthetic treatment that helps create a higher-brow appearance, which offers a more youthful look to the upper area of the face. Plastic surgeon Dr. Heath Charvet has performed countless brow lift surgeries on both women and men to help them create a more youthful, awake, and happy appearance. Dermal fillers and BOTOX® are commonly used in conjunction with a forehead lift at Magnolia Plastic Surgery and MedSpa to even further enhance results, producing a softer and smoother look. How Is a Brow Lift Performed?
Prior to your brow lift, we will give you anesthesia so you can remain comfortable during treatment. The incision performed in a browplasty is chosen based on the severity of skin sag, if the forehead is addressed, and the appearance of the hairline. There are many approaches to consider:
- Traditional incision: Also known as the open lift incision, an incision is placed behind the hairline at the top of the head. This type of incision works well for those with a sagging brow and frown lines and for those concerned about a receding hairline.
- Trichophytic incision: This incision is placed along the hairline and allows significant lifting of the brow for patients who have a strong hairline with little risk for recession.
- Lateral brow lift: Also called a temporal brow lift, this method starts the incision within the hairline slightly over the temples, allowing the outer parts of the brow to be treated and works well for sagging that is present in the outer brows. It can also help smooth Crow’s feet.
- Endoscopic forehead lift: This method makes several small incisions in the hairline and inserts an endoscope, which travels down to the eyebrow to release its attached tools. Through the endoscope’s camera, the brow tissue is repositioned with stitches to lift the brow in its better position.
Recovery after a brow lift varies. Typically, there’s more discomfort and swelling with the traditional technique versus the temporal or endoscopic techniques. In general, there is some swelling and bruising near the brows and sometimes around the eyes. Cold compresses can help diminish the inflammation. Dr. Charvet advises patients to sleep with pillows propped under their head for at least three nights after their brow lift and avoid any activities or movement that can pressure the face. The average recovery time from this procedure is around 2 – 3 weeks. The results can often be seen right away with a refreshed appearance that looks softer, more alert, and with a visible reduction in fine lines and sagging in the upper face.

Brow Lift FAQ
How much does a brow lift cost?
It’s more important to concentrate on finding an experienced surgeon, like Dr. Charvet, who can give you the results you want rather than choosing the cheapest surgeon. Your costs for brow lift surgery will depend on the technique used, anesthesia, facility fees, and more. When your treatment plan has been created during your consultation, cost estimates can be discussed. Dr. Charvet can also go over payment methods we accept and how to find low-interest financing to make your surgery is easier to afford.
Do I need a brow lift or facelift?
Whether you should get a brow lift or full facelift will depend on where you have sagging skin as well as your goals. You should openly discuss your wants with Dr. Charvet so he can help you choose which treatment is best for you. Many patients come in thinking they want a full facelift to discover they would achieve better results with a brow lift and vice versa. Using his experience, Dr. Charvet will confidently help you develop your unique treatment plan to give you the results you want.
What about nonsurgical treatments?
There are many nonsurgical treatments, including laser skin tightening and injectables (like BOTOX and JUVÉDERM®), that can give mild improvements. However, brow lift surgery is better for longer-lasting results and significant improvements. During your consultation, Dr. Charvet can go over both your nonsurgical and surgical choices to help you decide which is better for you.
What technique should I choose?
Dr. Charvet will go over surgical techniques in your consultation to help you know the advantages of each. He will then help you decide on the technique that best meets your needs and goals. A few of the factors that may influence your technique choice are your hairline (factoring in both your current hairline as well as your risk of future recession), the degree of skin sagging, and how much time you can devote to recovery.
Will my results look natural?
If you choose a skilled plastic surgeon like Dr. Charvet, your brow lift results will look natural. He will create your treatment plan with the right technique for your needs and goals — so you look refreshed and younger, not tight or frozen. When performing your brow lift, Dr. Charvet will concentrate on removing loose skin. The remaining skin and tissue will be smoothed — so your results don’t limit your facial expressions or lift your eyebrows too high.
