Breast Reduction
What Is a Breast Reduction?
Abnormally large breasts can create social and functional issues for women. Additionally, overly large and unbalanced breasts can create self-image issues, embarrassment, and even pain in both the neck and back. Dr. Heath Charvet is a dedicated plastic surgeon in New Orleans, LA who has helped countless women regain their confidence and enjoy an active lifestyle through cosmetic breast reduction. This aesthetic surgery at Magnolia Plastic Surgery and MedSpa reduces excess breast tissue and skin to recontour the breasts to a smaller, healthier size. Breast reduction surgery also reshapes the size of the areolas and nipples and repositions them so they are symmetrical with the new size of the breasts. In most cases, a breast lift can be implemented to give a tighter and healthier appearance.

How Is Breast Reduction Performed?
Breast reduction surgery is an outpatient procedure performed while you are under general anesthesia. The duration of the surgery depends on a few factors, including what incision method is used, the general technique, how much reduction is required, and if you’ll be receiving nipple and areola repositioning. Typically, liposuction is necessary for fat and tissue elimination to reduce breast size. During your consultation, all of these factors will be addressed with Dr. Charvet. The issue surrounding scarring is also discussed so you can have realistic expectations, as scarring is likely to occur. Based on the complexity of the reduction, either an inverted-T or a vertical incision will be made. The breast tissue will be removed, and the remaining skin and tissue will be tightened. After surgery, we’ll have you rest in a recovery room before you’re released home to heal. A thin tube for draining is usually inserted near the incision area to help control bleeding and swelling. A medical sports bra will be worn for several days that will improve blood circulation to the breasts during the initial healing period. Within about a month, your breasts will settle and the post-surgery effects will fade away and you can enjoy your new look.
