Am I a Good Candidate for a Breast Lift?

You may visit Magnolia Plastic Surgery and MedSpa believing you are a candidate for fuller breasts with breast implants; however, after a private assessment, you may discover that breast lift surgery is what you really need. Breast lifts are recommended over breast augmentations depending on the severity of sagging that is visible. Breasts and nipples that point down usually need a breast lift to reduce loose skin and raise the breasts higher on the chest wall. If you have nipples that droop downward and your breasts appear stretched, a lift surgery can dramatically improve their appearance. Ideal candidates for a breast lift should be physically well and at a healthy weight.

How Is a Breast Lift Performed?

Breast lift surgery typically takes two hours or more and is performed while you are under general anesthesia. The incision used for cosmetic breast lift surgery generally falls within two categories, the anchor technique (inverted-T) and the straight line vertical incision. Once the incision is made, any excess skin is removed along with breast tissue and fat that is not desired. Your skin is then tightened, and the breasts are positioned higher and lifted so they look healthy and youthful. In many cases, the size and shape of the areola may be reconstructed and reduced to match the new placement and shape of the breast. At this time, an implant can be placed inside the breast if this is part of your treatment plan; however, implants can always be inserted at a later date. Recovery for breast lift surgery is more extensive than breast augmentation. After your procedure, we’ll have you wear a medical compression bra to diminish swelling. A tiny tube is also inserted near the surgical area to assist with excess fluid leakage. It will take a few days before your swelling starts to go down. Dr. Charvet or a member of his team will provide detailed at-home care instructions to help you properly heal. Results following your breast lift treatment become evident after a few weeks as your breasts take their new position on your chest.
